Story

Ronnie Bell is a very loved and treasured member of the Dogs Trust Glasgow team which he joined in 2006 and he hasn't lost any of his passion since! Ronnie's love for the dogs is obvious to everyone who meets him, as he goes above and beyond for them all, and nothing is ever too much of an ask. One morning he even forgot to bring in his own cheese for his dogs, that he drove home and back again before his shift began, just to make sure he could spoil them all that day (as he does most days)!

Throughout the 17 years that he has been at Dogs Trust Glasgow, he has made so many wonderful friends. He is affectionately known within the team as 'Ronald McDonald' as he loves to make jokes and keep the team going with his enthusiastic energy.

Ronnie was recently diagnosed with terminal Oesophageal cancer and given several months to live by doctors. Ronnie, being Ronnie, has taken this news really well stating that he's had a great life and has no regrets! Of course, the team at Dogs Trust are devastated to hear of Ronnie's diagnosis. Whilst we have all been emotional, more often than not, Ronnie has ended up being everyone else’s shoulder to cry on and somehow ended up reassuring us!

As well as dogs, Ronnie has always been passionate about hill walking and has successfully completed all 282 Munros in Scotland. The Glasgow team wanted to do something to show our love for Ronnie and do something that we could share with him, that he would enjoy. We contemplated Ben Nevis, as the biggest and fiercest Munro, but as novices, we thought against that at this time of the year. When we asked Ronnie what his favourite Munro was, he said that Ben Lomond would be his favourite hands down as that's the one that he and his wife, Rose, climbed every Christmas Day for years. So that is our goal - to climb Ben Lomond with most of the team to raise money for the charity that Ronnie has worked so tirelessly for, for years. Of course, the centre can’t run itself so some staff will stay behind to take care of the dogs but will be trying to match the steps taken by those who are doing Ben Lomond.

When we spoke with Ronnie about who he would like the money to go to that we wanted to raise in his memory, he said it would have to be Dogs Trust Glasgow. He adores the team almost as much as we adore him, and is as passionate as ever about changing dogs lives. We would really be grateful for anything that you could spare for us and thank you so much for reading.
