Night in a room with a view · 6 August 2024

The Talyllyn Railway was the first ever railway in the world to be saved from scrap and run by volunteers. It opened in 1865, taken over by volunteers in 1951 and has operated steam trains from Easter to the end of October through beautiful southern Snowdonia every year since.

Story

After nearly 75 years since the Talyllyn became the World’s First Preserved Railway, it has become clear that we need to replace some of our facilities which have become time-expired, as well as providing improved accommodation and attractions for our passengers, to ensure the Railway thrives for the next 75 years.

I'm proud to volunteer at the Talyllyn, and to help support the Talyllyn 75 appeal I will spend a night in 'room with a view' - the old permanent way workers hut high up on the Talyllyn Railway. No windows, although there is a doorway - with no door - so i'm not in for a particularly comfy night whatever the weather.

I had aimed for a target of £75 but after beating that within minutes I’ve now upped it to £750 - maybe nearer the time I’ll need to up it to £7500?!

Thank you all for your support so far!
