Story
My little brother Hamish, who was only 18, was rushed to hospital on Sunday 20th October 2024 because he suddenly became severely ill with pneumonia and Neisseria meningitis (an inflammation of the protective membranes around the brain and spinal cord), which caused a life-threatening sepsis. The sepsis caused by the meningitis caused blood clots to form in his blood vessels, and these blood clots cut off the blood supply to his limbs, causing the tissue in his hands and feet to die. Hamish had both legs amputated from the knee down, his right hand, and all of his fingers on his left hand.
Despite this life-changing event, Hamish is now once again thriving at Southampton University, studying Philosophy.
I am running for Meningitis Research Foundation, not only to raise further awareness of this life-threatening disease, but to celebrate Hamish overcoming one of the greatest challenges that life can possibly throw at you.
I am the proudest older brother on the planet. #running4ham
