Story
I am running the London Marathon 2026 in support of the Palliative Care Team - Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity.
After my lovely mum had a diagnosis of terminal cancer she chose to go home and receive medical support from the palliative care team in her own home. She needed a small bit of kit - a syringe driver to be free of pain, unfortunately due to resources, there was a shortage and she had to wait three days. I want to raise funds so this incredible team can have more. They’re not that expensive (c.£1000) in the scheme of vital medical kit but they do a vital job; allowing patients to receive crucial medication at home so the last weeks can be as dignified and comfortable as possible.
While it broke our hearts, the palliative team’s care and dedication meant Mum had the death she wanted - in her cherished home, holding our hands.
Mum did all the training to run the London marathon in her 50th year: 1999 but an injury just days before meant she couldn’t. As I’m 50 next year I want to do this for her, it really is in her memory.
I’d truly appreciate any contribution.
Thank you. X
