J&J Team Hike · 13 July 2024

Over 150,000 of us in the UK have MS. It’s unpredictable and different for everyone. But it doesn’t have to be this way. We’re the MS Society. We understand what life’s like with MS. We're here for you through the highs, lows and everything in between. Together, we are strong enough to stop MS.

Story

***Update - Following the sad passing of Brett West on 20th June 2024 at aged only 50, this Fund raising event is now officially being dedicated to his memory***

From the age of 24, Brett was diagnosed and fought with immense strength every step of the way against this debilitating and incurable disease. From keen athlete, to walking stick, to frame, to wheel chair, and in his final days to bed.

An avid Manchester United fan and season ticket holder (dont hold that against him!), Rock music fan and devoted Husband, Son, Brother, Uncle and God Parent, Brett lived a hard but full life surrounded by amazing people who all loved him dearly.

In his last months he saw his team lift the FA Cup, flew in a plane, experienced a michelin star meal, somehow did a simulated sky dive, amongst other things.

He passed peacefully and in his own home.

The J&J team have dedicated themselves to raise much needed funds and awareness for the Multiple Sclerosis Society which struggles to get the funding it needs to try to eradicate this disease forever .

Two challenges have been set in the Lake and Peak Districts.

On 15th June, J&J will be undertaking a 20 mile hike across the Peak District, navigating the Carsington Reservoir via Black Rocks and Middleton Top (update - now already completed!)

On 13th July another hike is planned in the Lake District. The course is an intense 12 mile route that includes summiting England's highest peak, Scafell Pike alongside a challenging traverse of Crinkle Crags (5 mini peaks) and climbing Red Tarn and Three Shire Stone.

Both hikes are extremely challenging and the team are hard at work putting the miles in for what will be two very intense walks!

This is a very dear cause to J&J, not only with Brett, but for other members of the Team and the extended sub-contractor family who have direct exposure of the challenges facing those inflicted or being effected by MS.
