Story
I am delighted to have been selected by the charity ‘Project Trust’ to spend 8 months doing voluntary work in Peru. I went through a rigorous selection process in order to take part. Volunteers are chosen based on their enthusiasm, leadership skills, willingness to work collaboratively with others, openness to learning from new cultures, and desire to share and contribute through volunteering. I am excited to have this opportunity and hope to share my interests in education, music, sport, and the environment and contribute as a world citizen.
I will volunteer at a school in the Huaraz region. The mission of the school is to educate students in critical a thinking, global environmental sustainability and citizenship. I will be supporting teaching, student wellbeing, and extracurricular activities. I will be living within the school and will be immersed in supporting the local community.
Peru is a biodiverse country with varied geography that shapes its economy, which relies on mining, agriculture, fishing, and tourism. However, it faces environmental challenges. Education has improved, though inequalities remain. The Huaraz region features dramatic landscapes but faces risks from climate change and natural disasters.
I need to raise £6,850 in order take part in this volunteering with Project Trust. I will be organising fundraising activities such as sponsored litter picking, concerts, and cake and jewellery sales. I look forward to sharing my experiences and making a positive contribution as a global citizen.
