Round The Island Family Triathlon | KAA Intrepidus Trust (KIT) Charity

Rosalind Oxley is raising money for KAA Intrepidus Trust (KIT)

Family Triathlon · 29 August 2026

We are the KAA Intrepidus Trust, aka 'KIT', a charity set up after the Grenfell tragedy to provide students at Kensington Aldridge Academy with extra-curricular opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach. Kensington Aldridge Academy (KAA) is an outstanding secondary school serving a disadvantaged community in London’s North Kensington (over 50% of our students are on Free School Meals - double the national average). Our school community is not short on ambition and passion, but has sadly been tested far more than most, having been deeply affected by the Grenfell Tower fire, in which five of its pupils very sadly lost their lives. The good news is that the school has a charitable trust - the KAA Intrepidus Trust (KIT) - which develops and fundraises for sports, performing & creative arts, wellbeing and life-skills opportunities for the 1,300 pupils at the school. We aim to broaden our students' horizons, raise their aspirations and provide access to opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable. We open doors to a rich variety of educational enrichments in performing and creative arts, life skills, wellbeing, and sport, and create partnerships to further support these programmes. Examples include instrumental tuition, Duke of Edinburgh Award, rowing, mentoring, a free Breakfast Club and work experience.

Story

The Challenge

On August Bank holiday weekend, 2026 the 5 Oxleys (aged between 31-72), as a relay, will:

- Run / Walk around the entire island (70 miles) - so we will each run about 14 miles

- Swim across the Solent from the Isle of Wight to the mainland and back (4km) so we will each swim about 800m in open water

- Cycle around the entire island (70 miles) - so we will each cycle about 14 miles

We’ll take turns, passing the “baton” between us so that the whole thing is one continuous effort, with each of us covering the same distance. It will be a big physical, mental and logistical effort but we are doing this together for a great cause. This is about doing something hard, on purpose - the Big Goal is to complete this within 27 hours which means some of us running through the night.

Five Oxleys, Three Disciplines. One Adventure. See below for why we are doing this and here is the link to sponsor us if you wish.

The Charity

Ros Oxley works for an amazing charity (KAA Intrepidus Trust) that raises funds for a very impressive senior state school, Kensington Aldridge Academy (KAA) to fund many programmes that support the children in wellbeing, life skills, sport and performing arts.

The school is located in a deprived area of North Kensington - to put this in context, nationally, in senior state schools, 25% of pupils are eligible for Free School Meals, but at KAA, 50% of pupils are eligible for FSM. Alongside this comes many behavioural, social and academic issues, so we fund an All Child Programme to endeavour to address this.

We fund an in-school Link Worker to work, over two years, with the 30 students most ‘at risk’ of negative, emotional and academic outcomes. They build trusted relationships with the student, liaising with teachers, parents and social services (if appropriate), meeting weekly with each child (and sometimes more often) with the aim of improving their life chances.

Measured impact of the programme is the below:

The Donation

So we are raising money for this important programme that costs £30,000 over two years. If you felt able, we would be really grateful for any donation you could make. However, we appreciate that everyone has their chosen charities, so please do not feel in any way obligated to support us.
