Story
On 8th September 2024 I will be participating in the Great North Run to help raise funds for Spinal Research. Every year 4,400 people in the UK suffer a spinal cord injury. It can happen in an instant, to anyone, of any age at any time. Early in January my brother Angus was diagnosed with an infection at the top of his spinal cord. He was rapidly losing sensation in his limbs and required emergency surgery to drain the infection that was causing the damage. Following 3 months of treatment and a lot of determination, he was gradually able to walk again. 8 months later he is doing well and continuing his rehabilitation at home with his family, however we know that the outcome could have been very different.
Spinal Research is the UK’s leading charity funding medical research around the world to develop effective treatments for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury. Their research will also advance treatments for other neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, Motor Neurone Disease, Strokes and Dementia.
Spinal Research relies entirely on the support of the public to raise funds for innovative medical research. Please support vital research that will help develop life changing treatments for paralysis. Thank you!
