Rosanna's Big Swim for Aspire and WeSwim

Rosanna Machado is raising money for Aspire

Aspire Sealand Swim · 1 July 2025 to 15 September 2025 · Start fundraising for this event

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

This year's big birthday has prompted me to embark on a big challenge. I am excited (if not a little terrified) to be taking on the Sealand Swim. On 18th August 2025, I'll be swimming 7 miles from the Principality of Sealand to Felixstowe. As most of you know, I have had a challenging relationship with sport, so finding a love of swimming has been incredible for my physical and mental wellbeing.

Aspire is an important charity to me. After university, I embarked on some voluntary work and lived with the amazing Alexandra Rickham, who was paralysed after a diving accident. I have seen the impact that Aspire has, on people like Alexandra and watched in awe over the years as she has overcome obstacles to become a World Champion and Paralympic Bronze medallist in sailing.

And as a fabulous bonus any funds raised over £1400 will be split 50:50 with WeSwim https://weswim.club/ where I volunteer each week. WeSwim has 5 clubs in London, increasing opportunities for people with disabilities to swim and be part of a supportive community.

They say in life if you don't push yourself, you don't grow so here's hoping for lots of growth.

Thank you so much for supporting me whether that's keeping my imposter syndrome in check, sharing my post on social media or parting with a few pennies - it means a lot xx
