Story
On Friday 3 October, I’ll be giving up my bed for one night. I want you to know that I am fully aware that one night outside will never compare to what it actually means to grow up without safety, warmth, or stability.
I can step back into comfort the next day. So many children can’t. That’s the truth.
I’ll never fully understand the exhaustion, the hunger, the fear, or the way it rewires your sense of safety in the world. I grew up with food, warmth, and comfort I could rely on. That shaped me, and I don’t take that for granted.
This is why I’m taking part. Not because one night can replicate the reality, but because if raising money helps Action for Children provide something as basic as a warm meal, a safe bed, or a coat that actually fits, then it’s worth it.
But I also know money isn’t everything. I really think there’s more to be done in how we show up for each other in general in our communities, and the everyday ways we can care for those around us. The truth is, there are children and families going through this much closer to us than we probably realise. It doesn’t always take looking far to find someone who needs support, sometimes it’s right on our doorstep. I want to seek out more ways to help directly, not just financially, but in the human, everyday sense of being there for each other.
If you feel moved to support, please do. But even more than that, I hope this makes you pause and remember: childhood is precious. Every child deserves to feel safe, cared for, and protected.
All the love, and thank you so much if you do choose to donate,
Rose xxx
