Shelter Colour Run 2024 · 8 September 2024 ·

We exist to defend the right to a safe home and fight the devastating impact the housing emergency has on people and society. We believe that home is everything.

Story

Allan and myself along with Harvey,8 and Hunter,6 will be doing a 5k walk around Duthie Park to help.

In 2022-2023 there was 10% rise in the amount of people becoming homeless in Scotland.

Every 16 minutes a household will become homeless which results in 9,860 children becoming stuck in temporary accommodation.

Current statistics show that 1 in 25 people will experience homelessness by the age of 30.

With a further 20,000 people seeking advice and support.

This is a close to home issue for Allan and myself as we have both experienced being homeless in the past

Homelessness can happen to anyone and caused by so many factors, such as

• Cost of living rises and low incomes

• Domestic disputes

• Lack of affordable social housing

• Being forced out by private landlords

• Inadequate mental health support

• Inaccurate benefit system

and many more.

Changes need to made so that everyone can have a place they call home.
