Rosemary and Peter's fundraiser for Hospice Isle of Man

Rosemary Hickman is raising money for Hospiceiom
In memory of Gill Daniels

Sheffield Mutual Sheffield Half Marathon 2026 · 29 March 2026 ·

Hospice Isle of Man was founded in 1983, & since that time we have card for thousands of patients, and those that matter to them. We deliver all of our services completely free of charge. We need to fundraise over £5.5 million this year, in order to meet our anticipated £7.1 million running costs

Story

A massive thank you to all those who have donated and supported Peter and me through our training and on the day. It’s been six months of training to get up to the distance with some cold, dark morning snd evening runs.

We quite enjoyed the carb loading at the end!

On the day, it was cold and windy and the long hill was a challenge. We were buoyed up by the volunteers, local people and our family and friends who were do encouraging. Grace dog trotted beside me (with Simon) the last mile or so like a guard of honour!

Peter did brilliantly with a time of 1hr 47. I was pleased to do it in 3 minutes under 3 hours.

Stephanie and Charlotte did really well and raised more than £2,700 for cancer research.

We are all proud to have done this in memory of Gill and thank you so much for your generous support.

My nephew Peter and I are doing the Sheffield Half Marathon on March 29th 2026 to raise money for Hospice Isle of Man in memory of Peter's Mum, my sister, Gill who died in July 2025. Hospice at Home was wonderful with Gill and the family, and supported us all during a very difficult time. They were there day and night when we needed them and were always calm, reassuring and caring. We want this support to be available to as many people as possible, which is why we want to raise money to help.

This seemed a fitting tribute as Gill did the Sheffield Half Marathon when she was a dental student in Sheffield. Stephanie, Gill's niece and Rosemary's daughter initially suggested doing this event in Gill's memory and she is doing it to support cancer research.

Peter's grandparents on the Isle of Man were also cared for wonderfully in the hospice, so there is another factor in our choice.

I am a bit worried as I started running in my mid-forties and previously the most I have managed is 10K. I believe Peter, being much younger and with longer legs, will be twice as fast and I'm not joking. However, we have both been training hard and are very keen to complete this rather hilly half marathon.
