Story
To mark 2 years since Dawnie died, so tragically, of Young Onset Alzheimer’s Disease and her story launching the charity collaboration between the Metro and Alzheimer’s society, I’ve decided to take on the challenge of trekking the Cotswold challenge of 50-100km in one day, in Cirencester.
Many of my friends and family will know and understand our journey, I’ve shared the Metros article for context and kindly request any amount of sponsorship to support this charity event 🙏❤️
Dawnies journey was brutal, being diagnosed at age 58 and sadly dying 5 short years later at just 63. She was amazingly brave throughout and, inspite of all the challenges, we managed to make some amazing memories that we will cherish forever ❤️🫶🙏
Without support of incredible charities, we would have been completely bereft and adrift - it was on so many occasions an extremely lonely and traumatic caring journey faced in our 30s.
Despite my fitness this will be a huge challenge for me to complete the 50-100km one day challenge, especially as I’ll be in the midst of a 9 week placement block with long commutes and very long shifts.
It’s also my 40th year and over 8 years since my last significant charity challenge (white collar boxing!! 🥊)
At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives.
We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future.
