Rosie's fundraiser for Multiple Sclerosis Trust (MS Trust)

London Marathon 2024 · 21 April 2024 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page! In April 2024, I will be running the London Marathon and raising money for the MS Trust. I have been inspired by my (soon to be!) Mother-In-Law, Anne, who was diagnosed with relapsing MS several years ago and has raised thousands of pounds for The Osborne Centre in Wimborne, Dorset, a community and support-network for people with MS, their carers, helpers & supporters.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a neurological condition that causes damage to the nerves in your brain and spinal cord (the central nervous system). With MS, your immune system mistakenly attacks your central nervous system, targeting the protective covering around the nerves. This can cause a wide variety of symptoms, including extreme fatigue, difficulty with balance, coordination & walking, problems with thinking & memory, and bladder / bowel issues. Those with advanced MS experience a complex and severe mix of MS symptoms, and will often be severely debilitated (requiring a wheelchair or bedbound, and dependent on caregivers).
130 people are diagnosed with MS per week in the UK, and 40,000 people across the UK are living with advanced MS. Currently, there is no cure, although there is a range of possible treatments. These figures help to illuminate why charities like the Osborne Centre & MS Trust are so vital.
The MS Trust exists to help everyone make sense of MS, from the moment of diagnosis and throughout the journey. Its mission is to enable people with MS to live their lives to the fullest, providing practical, financial, and emotional support, as well as a wealth of information about the condition.
In addition, it plays a vital role in providing educational resources & training for health professionals, and campaigning for better care.
I am so delighted to be able to raise money for such a fantastic cause and charity, and am committing myself to doing the best I can in training and fundraising.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
