Story
In October I will be taking on THREE (yes three!) half marathons - Dorney Lakes, Royal Parks and Rugby. This is a huge challenge for me. Even though I have done a half marathon before I have never done three in a year let alone in the same month.
WHY THREE???
3 x 21km = Down Syndrome
For those who don't know Down syndrome is an additional third copy of 21st chromosome and October is Down syndrome awareness month. So completing 3 copy’s of 21km (half marathon distance) seems fitting!
I will be raising money for a local charity The Ups of Downs. Our beautiful Madeleine was born with Down syndrome and from the moment we had the diagnosis the charity founder Nicola reached out to express that we were not alone, because we had just joined a wonderful new community. They continue to be there to help us understand and guide us through any questions we have.
The Ups of Downs does amazing work supporting children with Downs Syndrome and their families by running weekly/monthly sessions for different age groups. They offer regular training courses and support sessions for, children, parents and healthcare professionals.
The Ups of Downs raises awareness of the amazing Ups of being a person with Downs Syndrome. They raise the profile of our children to help them all become valued and included in the community, have the choice to attend mainstream schools and when old enough to work; not to encounter barriers but instead to be welcomed and embraced like any other member of society.
