Our family fundraiser for University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire Charity

We were on cloud nine when our daughter Rosie was born early in the morning on Tuesday 26th March 2024. She came peacefully into the world on her due date following a straightforward pregnancy and labour. However, our world changed forever when doctors identified she was not getting enough oxygen to her body. Over the following hours, Rosie was diagnosed with PPHN meaning her body’s circulatory system was not adapting to life outside the womb.
Little Rosie fought so hard but sadly passed away on 28th March 2024, aged just two days old. There had been nothing to suggest there was anything wrong in pregnancy, so her death was such a shock for us and our whole family.
Whilst we are devastated by her loss, we would like to honour Rosie's short life by raising funds for the neonatal unit at UHCW Hospital in Coventry, where Rosie spent much of her time. In particular, we'd like to raise money to improve the comfort of the NICU family rooms, where we stayed for two nights to be close to Rosie whilst doctors and nurses fought to save her life.
The NICU rooms offer a much-needed space for couples and family to stay overnight at the hospital and be close to their newborn babies, particularly when they are at their most unwell. For us, it meant there was only a matter of metres between us and our baby and we knew we could be by Rosie's side in an instant if needed, an instinct that is incredibly strong for any parent. Staying there meant we could spend precious time with Rosie, rest whenever we could and be with her during her final hours when the worst happened.
However, the two rooms need some improvement to elevate them from a basic place to sleep and turn them in to a more comfortable and comforting place for parents. With the money raised in remembering Rosie, we aim to purchase new furniture and to decorate the rooms to better support parents in their time of need.
Over the coming months, we and our wider family will be organising a number of challenges and events to raise funds for this purpose and we thank you for taking the time to read Rosie's story and for supporting us and her legacy.
We’d also like to take this opportunity to thank our family, friends, colleagues and the many others we've met along the way for the love, strength and support you have shown.
