Story
We are taking on the Wee Westie - the first 22 miles of the West Highland Way, from Milngavie to Balmaha - to raise awareness and funds for the Lauren Currie Twilight Foundation (LCTF)!
LCTF was established in 2010 by the parents of Lauren Currie, who passed away in October 2010 due to undiagnosed Vasculitis, which is an autoimmune disease which affects blood vessels all over the body. Lauren was 15 when she died of a form of Vasculitis (GPA); sadly, her death would have been prevented with a quicker diagnosis in the months before.
LCTF provides support to patients and their loved ones across Scotland and beyond, through regular support groups where people can be surrounded by others who are going through similar Vasculitis journeys; through a yearly residential wellbeing weekend focused on lifestyle changes whilst living with Vasculitis; through access to the Twilight Cabin on the banks of Loch Awe which gives respite to those unable to travel far distances due to their diagnosis. LCTF also provides educational resources for both GPs and patients and, through fundraising activities, provides opportunity to support educational research through PhD funding.
We hope by taking part in the Wee Westie that we can help to raise vital funds to allow LCTF to continue to provide the support they do!
