Story
Thank you so much for visiting my JustGiving page.
On August 30th, I will be lacing up my walking boots and taking part in the "Off the Beatson Track" 10k walk to raise vital funds for the Beatson Cancer Charity. I originally signed up for this walk to support my amazing dad, Ger, through his treatment. Heartbreakingly, I will now be doing this walk in his memory.
Earlier this year, Dad attended a progress appointment following prolonged treatment for Bladder Cancer. We received the fantastic news that there were no traces of bladder cancer showing! However, during that same appointment, Dad complained of extreme back pain, and a scan showed several fractured vertebrae. Initially diagnosed with Osteoporosis, further investigation revealed the injuries were actually the result of bone weakness caused by advanced multiple myeloma.
Dad started his treatment at the Beatson ward in Monklands Hospital, but on July 6th, he was admitted to hospital with more back pain and another suspected fracture. After three weeks of treatment for infections, we learned that the cancer had taken hold. His chemotherapy was halted, and on July 28th, he was put on end-of-life care. He passed away early in the evening of August 4th.
I am walking this 10k to honor his memory, give something back, and say a huge thank you to the Beatson for everything they do for patients like my dad and so many others. The money raised goes directly to the charity, helping them fund life-saving research, cutting-edge equipment, and essential patient support services.
Any donation, no matter how big or small, will mean the absolute world to me, my family, and all those who rely on the Beatson's services. If you aren't in a position to donate right now, simply sharing this page would be a massive help.
Thank you so much for all your love, support, and generosity during this incredibly difficult time. Let's do this for Ger! 💛💛
Thank You,
Ross
