London-Paris Cycle Ride · 12 September 2025

Small Steps supports young children with physical disabilities from London and beyond. We teach parents of children with cerebral palsy and other forms of motor and sensory impairment, to help their child maximise their independence. Small Steps is 100% charity funded and our sessions are free.

Story

I'm cycling from London to Paris in 48 hours to raise money for Small Steps!

In June 2023, at 4 months old, our son Josiah was diagnosed with an extremely rare genetic condition. Life would never be the same from that moment on, as we ventured into a new unknown world of disability. Through all the grief, loneliness and pain that this journey has brought so far, we have found a deep sense of community, belonging and safety at Small Steps - an incredible organisation that supports children with physical disabilities. Josiah has attended weekly sessions at Small Steps for over a year - 2 hours each week of focused activities to encourage physical, emotional, social, verbal development & so much more. When Josiah started at Small Steps, he was barely crawling, now a year on he is WALKING independently! Because of this incredible achievement, Josiah has recently graduated from Small Steps in July 2025. We're so proud of our boy and so grateful to Small Steps - this cycle ride is a small way of saying thank you, please give what you can!

Small Steps helps children with physical disabilities, aged from birth to 5 years, work on all areas of their development, using the principles of conductive education.

These children have cerebral palsy, other forms of motor impairment, syndromes or sensory impairment. They need a great deal of extra stimulation and assistance to help them reach even the most basic milestones. At Small Steps, teachers, conductors and physiotherapists lead both parent and child through a structured programme designed to help each child achieve individualised developmental steps.

What makes Small Steps so special is that the focus is very much on the positive; what children can and will achieve, rather than what they can't. Parents benefit from the mutual support of shared experiences, on the emotional journey of having a disabled child. The work of Small Steps is a lifeline to families, and we would be extremely grateful for your support for this very worthy cause.

Small Steps sessions are 100% free. In order to remain accessible to all, there is no charge to families. The charity receives no statutory funding, so is solely dependent on charitable grants, fundraising and donations. Raising sufficient funds is proving particularly challenging for Small Steps in the current financial climate and they have seen a shortfall of income over the past year. No matter what the amount, every little bit donated will make a big difference. Please dig deep and help Small Steps continue their amazing work enhancing the lives of disabled children and their families. Thank you 🧡
