Story
This year, I am returning to race in a Dragon Boating tournament at Roundhay Park in Leeds on 23 June. The event raises much needed funds and awareness for Martin House Children's Hospice, which supports children with life limiting conditions in North Yorkshire.
I am rowing in memory of our daughter Evelyn, who was cared for by a brilliant team of doctors and professionals based at Martin House before she sadly passed away in 2021.
The hospice became our lifeline when Evelyn sustained a significant brain injury at birth and developed complex symptoms and disabilities. The hospice team led her care plan; providing support, respite and medical expertise throughout her life. Without the level of care we received both at home and at the hospice, Evelyn would have spent the majority of her life in hospital, separated from her family and friends. We continue to receive bereavement support from the hospice as we navigate new milestones without Evelyn. We currently attend baby groups with Arthur where other bereaved families can meet to share experiences, and Charlie has very fond memories of the playgrounds and toy rooms where he could play when we stayed there for respite visits.
Our friends, family, colleagues and wider connections have been incredibly generous in supporting our various fundraising activities over the last couple of years. This is hugely appreciated and as we continue to grow Evelyn’s legacy we are grateful for every donation, no matter the size.
