Story
Last September, my family and I lost my stepfather, Scottie, who suffered with dementia. He was such a happy soul always singing, and cracking a joke. A truly proud and active man who loved life. Witnessing the impact of this cruel disease on him was heart breaking for all of us.
With 1 in 3 people affected, dementia is a widespread and devastating condition. It destroys lives and leaves loved ones feeling helpless as they watch the decline. It's a painful journey for everyone involved.
In memory of Scottie, I will be rowing a marathon 42k (26 miles) on a indoor rowing machine to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society, in hope to make a difference in the fight against this terrible disease. Any donation, big or small, would be greatly appreciated, as every little bit helps.
The row will be held at Westlands care home on Wednesday 28th May. They took such good care of Scottie when his dementia worsened, and I think it's a fitting place to gather and remember him so feel free to pop in and show your support.
Thank you so much for your support; it means a lot to me. I know that, together, we can contribute to the Alzheimer's Society and help them continue their important work.
