Around since 1923, SAMH currently operates over 60 services in communities across Scotland. These services together with our national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention, sport and physical activity; inform our policy and campaign work to influence positive social change.

Story

This Sunday, we’ll be attempting something a little… unconventional. We’ve built a new boat — or more accurately, a pallet boat — and we’ll be taking it to the sea to try and cross the Firth of Forth. It’s part adventure, part engineering experiment, and part glorious madness, but all for a cause that matters deeply: raising money for SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health). https://www.samh.org.uk/

SAMH has been supporting the mental health and wellbeing of people across Scotland for over 100 years. Their work is vital — from providing direct support services, to campaigning for better mental health rights, to ensuring that no one has to face mental health challenges alone. In a world where mental health struggles touch so many lives, the work of SAMH is more important than ever.

This project wouldn’t have been possible without The Forge, our local community workshop. The Forge is more than just a space filled with tools — it’s a place where ideas turn into reality, where people share skills, and where creativity and community thrive side by side. Without their facilities, knowledge, and encouragement, our pallet boat would never have left the drawing board.

By donating, you’re helping us turn a slightly madcap sea crossing into something meaningful — supporting mental health across Scotland and sustaining the creative community spaces that make challenges like this possible. Every contribution, big or small, gets us one stroke closer to the other side.
