🪂 Don’t take yourself so seriously! 🪂
Recently I was at a gym class run by an excellent instructor. They’re so good at what they do that you forget you’re in a class, sweating buckets with screaming quads and hammies - because you’re having fun. One of the things they say is, “Don’t take yourself so seriously.”
And it’s such good advice. Because it’s so tempting to do the opposite. To try to carry every single thing that comes your way as if it’s all yours to hold. To believe you have to solve every problem within you and around you.
This year, I turn 40, and I’ve decided that a pretty good resolution is to stop taking absolutely everything (especially myself) quite so seriously. To do what I can, when and where I can - but also to make space to show up for the fun moments. When life gets busy and serious, fun is often the first thing to go.
So…in this spirit... I’ve booked myself in to do an actual (tandem) Skydive. 🪂
It will be (weather permitting) on 13th June, the week after my 40th birthday.
I’ve decided to try to raise some money for a local charity - Dundee Carers Centre.
Rooted in the belief that everyone deserves to be treated with fairness and dignity—and supported to make a positive difference in their own life—Dundee Carers Centre supports the many unpaid carers across our city. These are people who too often go unrecognised, yet play a vital role in holding families and communities together. The Centre supports carers, young carers, and disabled people by providing trusted information and support services; promoting and upholding their rights; empowering individuals to challenge decisions that affect their lives; and working collaboratively to develop new services where unmet needs are identified.
This feels like a good way to mark a significant year: doing something a bit mad, lots of fun, a bit brave (I don't really like heights very much) and hopefully something that helps do a tiny bit of good for a brilliant cause in our city.
Consider this me not taking myself too seriously 😉🪂
I could do with all the support I can get, so if you’re able to sponsor me, I’d be very grateful.
