Royal School Fundraiser for ASHA

David Cunningham is raising money for Friends of Asha (Ireland)

4 Peaks Challenge · 29 June 2025

Asha has been transforming lives in the slums of Delhi since 1988. Asha was founded by Dr Kiran Martin, a paediatrician, who observed first-hand, the devastating conditions in which the urban poor live while responding to a cholera outbreak in one of Delhi’s slums. Currently, Asha works in over 90 slums across Delhi, serving over 900,000 slum dwellers. Asha has developed a strong track record in improving the lives of the urban poor and as a result, has won the respect and support of government ministers in India and around the world. Asha believes that the key to tackling the poverty cycles lies in educated, healthy, empowered individuals who are able to transcend their personal circumstances and transform their own lives, and those of their families and ultimately their communities. Asha achieves this by enabling people to transform their healthcare, education, environment and finances of their own community. Thank you so much for your kind donation. Every penny transforms lives in the slums of Delhi. Asha is working relentlessly towards bringing holistic development in the urban slums of Delhi. We’ll ensure that whatever you have donated will be put to the best possible use and give even more people hope for a better future. Words can't express how thankful we are for your support.

Story

As part of the fundraising for The Royal School's trip to India in October to support the charity ASHA an intrepid troop of 5 pupils and 6 staff are going to embark on the Irish 4 Peak Challenge - 1180km on road plus 34km trekking with 3300m of ascent.

The aim will be to climb the highest mountain in each province in 36 hours. From Armagh the team will travel to Connacht and after summiting Mweelrea (814m) they will travel to Munster to climb Ireland's highest mountain, Carrauntoohil (1039m) in Kerry. The third peak will be the highest in Leinster with the hope to be back in the bus after climbing Lugnaquilla (925m) before lunchtime on Monday 30th June.

The final mountain will be Slieve Donard (850m) on Monday afternoon and it is anticipated more pupils and staff will join the group to provide some much needed encouragement for the final push.

We will keep you updated during the challenge on the school social channels.
