Story
Migrants Organise is a strong, welcoming community of and for refugees and migrants organising for power, dignity and justice. We combine campaigning, advocacy and research with community organising, support and solidarity for those affected by the hostile environment.
I have been working with Migrants Organise for the past 22 years and it has been a personal and passionate commitment for nearly a third of my life! Their work exemplifies everything I believe in and want to contribute to – a powerful, caring community and a respectful and just world for all to live in.
So, to celebrate my 70th birthday on 8th August 2025, please join me in contributing to this aim. My target is to raise £5,000 towards this vital work and you can make a significant difference!
Your donation will go towards providing a welcoming, safe and supportive environment for refugees and asylum-seekers and contribute to one or more of the following:
- Specialist casework and legal advice
- Support towards the Organising Collective Learning Sessions and Trainings
- Sustaining group activities for psycho-social support including gardening, cooking, sewing, learning English, yoga and many other skills
- Members travel expenses to attend groups, meetings and organising campaign activities
- Destitution Fund including the Welcome Pack for new arrivals i.e. toiletries, personal hygiene products, access to technology etc.
Migrants Organise is at the forefront of providing this vital support including housing, welfare and complex immigration advice, often times up to judicial review and winning!
This work joins hands with and enables migrants and refugees to campaign against the hostile environment and regularly speak out on local, national and social media as well as in policy fora, about the harsh realities of the hostile environment.
Solidarity Knows No Borders!
Those who thought they were alone have discovered they are not alone; those who thought they had no claim to rights have discovered their rights. Those rights lead to housing, to welfare benefits, to community care: I’m talking specifically about the work of Migrants Organise here — and I want to take a moment to acknowledge its core ethos, which is in its name: Migrants Organise - we don’t need to be saved, we need to come together! Behind all the victories I’ve mentioned, there are campaigners and organisations and activists. Let no one refer to any of their victories as ‘small victories’. Each one of them transforms lives.
