Story
Alzheimer’s Society is working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives.
My Granny was loud and funny and loved us intensely. She developed dementia whilst I was in my teens and it was crushing to see this cheeky woman (who made me eat sandy sandwiches on the beach, could eyeball cake ingredients, insisted that sticking pasta to paper with PVA and painting it was fun, and always had a hanky stuffed up her sleeve) forget how to do the things she loved, and eventually forget us too.
She stayed at home with my Grandpa and carers until she passed away, and I know that she was really lucky they could manage this. 1 in 3 people born in the UK today will be diagnosed with Dementia in their lifetime, and so many of those people might have to go through it alone. Some people with dementia also face neglect and abuse from the people they should be able to trust.
Alzheimer's Society supports a huge range of activities to help people living with dementia, and research into causes and treatments. If you are able to donate to them, I would be so grateful. If that's not something you are able to do but you have read all of this - thank you so much, please share it with friends :)!
