Story

Roxy has joined us at 6 years old as her previous owner simply could not afford to continue caring fully for her. Roxy needs various surgeries to enable her a better quality of life. Currently she has a very difficult time breathing which is made worse by exercise and hot weather but with a lack of exercise comes a whole list of other problems which would affect her welfare. She desperately needs BOAS surgery to improve her ability to breath and her overall quality of life. Further to this, she has not been spayed which she also needs to reduce the risk of her contracting pyometra or tumours later in life.

Roxy had also previously had an ulceration on her right eye and while this has healed, she requires eye drops to prevent inflammation of the eye.

Unfortunately for Roxy her list of health concerns does not end there! She may also require a screw-tail operation due to an abnormality with her tail which is often genetic. This will be assessed at the time of her BOAS surgery to ascertain whether it is required but it’s seeming very likely and would prevent future recurring health problems.

As cute as flat-faced breeds like Roxy are, the reality is that behind their “signature look” lies a long list of serious health problems mostly stemming from their extremely short, flattened skull shape. They’re typically born with an already compromised quality of life and a need for surgeries which are never cheap! We’re finding an increasing amount of these breeds in rescues due to owners not being able to afford these surgeries and then the rescues are left to pick up the big bills.

We’re already in a financial crisis here at the animal home but we simply must help get Roxy the much needed surgeries to see her go on to have a better quality of life and be overall more comfortable. Overall, we are hoping to raise £1,500 towards her medical costs as this would help should she end up needing a tail operation too.

We would be so grateful if you’re even able to donate £2 towards this to help, or share her story with friends and family. Thank you so much for caring.
