Story
On the 15th of September, I’ll be taking on the Glencoe Marathon, a tough off-road race through the raw and rugged beauty of the Scottish Highlands.
For me this run is about more than the views, I’m running to raise money for Milly’s Smiles, an incredible charity that’s right here in our community.
When I set out to find a cause to support, I wanted it to be local and meaningful, something that genuinely helps people. That’s when I came across Milly’s Smiles. I reached out and arranged a meeting with the founder, Lorraine, Milly’s mum, to find out more.
All I can say is: I was blown away, Lorraine is an extraordinary woman, her resilience, strength and humble determination to help others through the worst times of their lives is something that deeply moved me. Choosing Milly’s Smiles was never in doubt after that conversation.
Milly’s Smiles provide a Milly bag to children who are newly diagnosed with cancer and admitted to specialist oncology wards, throughout the UK. These bags are full of essential and comforting items, things that bring a little light, warmth and care during a time of fear and uncertainty. The charity ensures no family feels alone when their world is suddenly turned upside down.
As a small charity, funding is absolutely vital. Each Milly’s Smiles Bag costs £140 to put together and every single one is packed with love, care and attention to detail. These aren’t just care packages, they are a message of comfort and solidarity, at a time when families need it most
This run is personal for me in more ways than one. Not only am I fundraising but I’m also pushing myself harder than I ever have. My goal is to beat my current road marathon PB and in doing so, I would beat the current women’s record for the Glencoe Marathon. I’m giving this everything I’ve got, mentally, physically, emotionally.
If you can donate, no matter how big or small, it would mean the world to me, to Milly’s Smiles and to the children and families they support.
Let’s do something good, together.
