Children’s Holiday Venture is a student-run charity established in 1963, based in Edinburgh. We work with approximately 150 children. Our mission is to improve the children’s emotional wellbeing, confidence &social skills through free fortnightly activity evenings, day trips & residential camps.

I’ve had the pleasure of volunteering with this wonderful charity for the past two years, and of being on the committee this year. Without a doubt, CHV has been the most rewarding part of my time at university. I’m incredibly proud of the dedication and hard work all of our volunteers put in to support the young people we work with.

As the charity’s fundraising officer, it only seems fair that I put myself through 42km of pain rather than just persuading everyone else to do it! The kids in my group may call me a “ginger midget”, but at least I’ll be a ginger midget who’s run a marathon.

£10: funds one night out for one child

£20: buys healthy snacks and drinks for one group of children

£60: will pay for a semester’s worth of activities for a child

£100: funds a whole group’s activity evening

£200: pays for a child’s space at a three day residential camp

£400: funds a whole group’s day trip (12 children)
