She did it — Rue climbed Yr Wyddfa / Snowdon!

We are so incredibly proud to share that Rue completed her Snowdon challenge.
At 5 years old, she climbed up the Rhyd Ddu Path and came down the Miners’ Track — two proper mountain routes — and she walked the whole way. The whole adventure took about 8½ hours, and somehow, even at the end, Rue still had enough energy to run and skip. Daddy, not so much.
Rue had said she wanted to take the “hard” Rhyd Ddu route up, and then chose the “hard” Miners’ Track down because she wanted to see the lakes. There were big climbs, rocky scrambles, a few slippery bits, and a very long descent — but she kept going with such determination and joy.
Her favourite parts were scrambling up the rocks, playing “the floor is lava”, telling stories about the mountain fairies, seeing all the waterfalls on the way down, throwing stones into the lake at the bottom, and eating a lot of jelly beans. Lots of lovely people stopped us on the way to say “wow” when they saw Rue on these challenging paths, which spurred her on to keep going.
When she rang Mummy at the end, Rue said she wanted to “do it again tomorrow” — which probably says everything about her spirit.
This challenge was for our friend, who has NF2, and to support the brilliant work of NF2 BioSolutions UK. It meant so much to Rue, that she was doing something kind and brave for someone important to her and our family.
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated, shared the page, encouraged Rue, or sent kind messages. We originally hoped to raise £250 and have already gone beyond that, which is amazing. We are going to keep the page open for a little while longer in case anyone else would still like to support Rue and NF2 BioSolutions UK.
