Story
David’s health issues started in 1981.
Without the work from Kidney Research UK, there is no doubt that David’s life would have been very different. In the year 2000 he was part of a research program to receive a transplant from a “non-beating” donor. He was no.72 in the program, the first 39 failed. He was very proud 3 weeks ago when he celebrated 24 years of his transplant.
This transplant not only saved his life, but transformed it. Prior to this he had undertaken Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (essentially 2 litres of fluid put into the body via a tube in the stomach requiring changing every 4 hours) and then later Hemodialysis. The latter took hours and he would sit in an armchair whilst his blood was cleaned. It was during one of these sessions at home that we received the phone call that there was a kidney. After a nail-biting period, the kidney started working and the rest is history. He had the opportunity to experience landmark occasions with his beloved family including welcoming six grandchildren into the world.
Following David’s death on 13th November 2024, this page has been set up to raise money in his memory and to support this charity with thanks. We hope it can provide the similar chances of cherished memories to be made.
