Story
Hello, I’m Zahra Joya and I’m Editor in Chief of Rukhshana Media.
Five years ago, the Taliban over-ran Afghanistan and took power. Life, for women, became intolerable. I was lucky, I got out and continue to work in exile.
Our team of courageous women journalists was left behind, banned from taking part in public life, education, work and with little or no human rights. But they continue to operate undercover, reporting on women’s lives, and exposing the reality of the Taliban’s rule.
One of them says: I’ve been searched by the morality police and I’m unable to travel without a male chaperone. Yet I cannot stop writing, because the crimes against the women of my country, myself among them, must never remain in silence, even if the price is a life lived in fear."
Now we need your help.
We need to raise £50K to be able to keep paying our team of 10 brave reporters who work secretly inside Afghanistan. The money will help them support their families and put food on the table as women are excluded from most jobs. And we need them to keep telling the outside world the truth about Taliban rule.
Please stand with us.
