After hearing Bella’s story, it was immediately inevitable that awareness & appreciation must be made to all of the remarkable staff and the positive effects they’re having on each and every patient under their incomparable care.
Since January 2020, Bella has been undergoing extensive treatment for Autoimmune Hepatitis. Due to the severity & complexity of her condition, Bella was sent from North Tees Hospital to the extraordinary team at Leeds Children’s Hospital Liver Ward in an attempt to stabilise her condition.
Over a 3 week period, Bella and her family soon came to find that they were in the safest of hands, knowing that this ward was only 1 of 3 children’s liver specialist wards in the whole of England. Not only were they able to solely treat Bella, but they also made it paramount that all of the family were supported during their time in and out of hospital, making sure they knew they were not alone and there was unconditional support there 24/7, 365 days of the year.
In the space of just one year, Bella’s doctors were able to reduce her visits to hospital from once a week to once every 3 months. This just goes to show that the care provided at Leeds Children’s Hospital is simply unsurpassed! Despite Bella’s reduced hospital visits, unfortunately, there's still a need for her to undergo a procedure called “Banding Project” which is completed under general anaesthetic.
The past 4 years have undoubtedly been an emotional rollercoaster, nevertheless, it’s results season and Bella has completely superseded her expected grades and can pursue her dream career choice. Now aged 16, Bella is now receiving treatment within the Specialist Liver Ward for Adults here in Newcastle.
After hearing such an inspiring and motivational story, you can see why we are incredibly passionate about raising awareness for Leeds Children’s Hospital Charity, so please do join us to celebrate Bella’s successful 4 years under their care and wish her all the very best with her treatment at Newcastle.
If you are unable to attend the event and would still like to support this amazing cause, please kindly leave a donation of your choice, as every penny REALLY DOES make a difference.
