Story

Our beloved, beautiful, talented Phoebe died in September 2021. She will forever be loved, missed and in our hearts.

In 2022 Mike Crowley, Mike Wilson, David Pope and Ian Atkey [Phoebe's Dad] undertook a 5-day bike ride from Phoebe's birthplace in Salisbury to Amsterdam to fundraise for Young Minds in Phoebe's memory. We called ourselves Team "Ride 4 PHOE8E".

Following our hugely positive efforts last year raising £9,436 [194% of our target], and with continued support & encouragement we receive from family, friends and colleagues, we have decided to do it again. This time we are riding the THREE CAPITALS: Paris - Brussels - Amsterdam, setting off from Frank Gehry's Louis Vuitton Foundation in the Bois de Boulogne on Wednesday 28th June, arriving at our destination in Amsterdam, the Van Gogh Museum, on Sunday 2nd July.

Phoebe was an artist & illustrator. She admired the work of Van Gogh & one of the last films she watched with us was the superbly animated 'Loving Vincent'. For the 2nd year, our destination is the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam which in 2023 is celebrating its 50th Anniversary. To further our Van Gogh association this year we have chosen Auberge Ravoux, Auvers-sur-Oise to be the 1st Patisserie Pitstop of our journey. This is where Van Gogh lived [and died] for a few months in the summer of 1890 and where he produced some of his greatest work.

Our goal is the same: to raise £4848.48 for Young Minds, 48 being Phoebe's favourite number.

By the time we set off in June, it will only have been 8 months since we received such wonderful financial support, and encouragement, from friends, family, colleagues & indeed people we didn’t know, and so we are planning a slightly different approach to this year's fundraising. We suggest a donation of £12 per person and ask that you share our events, unique fundraising project [see below] & the work of "Young Minds" with at least 3 friends/colleagues and request they also donate £12 [4 x £12 = £48]. There's Phoebe's number again! To reach our target, we need to reach 404 people and with your help we hope this is achievable.

This year Young Minds has asked us to promote its vision of facilitating a position where no young person feels alone with their mental heath. In Phoebe's memory and with your help, our 2023 fundraising efforts will directly support Young Minds' three programmes, 1. Never Alone, 2. Someone to Turn To, 3. Powerful Young Voices.

Last year, our fundraising efforts for Phoebe and Young Minds were boosted with family & friends completing their own running challenges [Bournemouth 10k & RED - Run Every Day in January]. This year is no different.

Abbey Fawcett successfully completed the Paris marathon on the 2nd April and chose to run for Phoebe & Young Minds. Paris seems to be a theme!

On August 12th, our friend Rob Chik is dedicating his one-day 104 mile ride from Winchester to Sandbanks return to Young Minds and will be adding to our total. Rob is fit. He'll complete this in super quick time.

And for our final event for 2023, Phoebe's cousin Grace Glitz has decided to run the Cardiff Half Marathon on 1st October with her friend Scarlett. Grace will be running for Young Minds and Scarlett for Cancer Research UK. Grace has trained hard all summer and is now close to peak fitness!!
