Story

We are Milo Young and Gabriel Maddison, two 26-year-old friends, taking on the incredible challenge of running the length of England 630km—from Berwick-Upon-Tweed in the north to Brighton in the south—in just 15 days. That’s 15 marathons in 15 days. We will be running this unsupported, pushing ourselves to our physical and mental limits every step of the way.

Milo:

I lost my mum, Natalie Young, to cancer on December 20th, 2024. My mum was an extraordinary woman—kind, selfless, and always putting others before herself. When she was diagnosed with colon cancer in July 2024, it was a complete shock to our family. Her battle with cancer was long and difficult, and despite undergoing chemotherapy and exploring holistic treatments, she passed away later that year.

Her loss is a pain that stays with me every day, and it’s this loss that motivates me to take on this challenge. I know running the length of England won’t be easy, but I also know it’s something my mum would have encouraged me to do—to push past my limits, to keep going even when it seems impossible. This run is for her—a way to honour her strength, love, and the incredible impact she had on everyone around her.

Gabriel:

Cancer has also had a deep impact on my life. I lost my grandfather and uncle to the disease, and it has shaped the way I see the world. Growing up on a family-run farm, family was everything to me. When you lose someone who holds that family together, it feels like the world breaks apart. My grandfather and uncle were strong, resilient men who always faced challenges head-on. Their strength and perseverance inspire me to take on this challenge.

This run is about more than just testing my physical limits—it’s about honouring the people I’ve lost and pushing myself in a way I never thought possible. It’s a chance to prove that even in the face of adversity, we can still find the strength to keep moving forward. I know my grandfather and uncle will be with me every step of the way, just as their memory continues to guide me in life.

Our Chosen Charity:

We are running in support of Purple Heart Wishes, a charity that is incredibly close to our hearts. Purple Heart Wishes are dedicated to granting wishes to adults diagnosed with terminal illnesses, from ages 18-55. These people often face overwhelming challenges, and Purple Heart Wishes helps create lasting memories with their families and friends, giving them moments of joy and peace amidst unimaginable hardship.

We understand, all too well, the importance of cherishing every moment with those we love, and that’s why we’re supporting Purple Heart Wishes. Through this run, we hope to raise vital funds and awareness to support their mission. Every step we take will be a tribute to the memory of our loved ones and a chance to give back to others facing their own battles.

This run isn’t just about us—it’s about making a difference for those who need it most. We’re honoured to support Purple Heart Wishes and to help make a positive impact in the lives of young adults battling terminal illnesses.
