Story
"I ran 13.1 miles the other day. I'm doing it again."
A PB of 1:57:40 at Wokingham Half Marathon. Felt great. But here's what I keep thinking about on long runs:
There are young people in Reading right now who want to coach. They've got the passion. They've got the potential. The only thing standing between them and a real career in sport is £160.
That's it. One hundred and sixty pounds.
For that, a young person gets their FA Introduction to Coaching, First Aid, and Safeguarding qualifications — the minimum we need to employ them at Reading FC Community Trust. Not a maybe. Not "keep your chin up." An actual door, open.
I've worked at the Trust for 10 years. I've seen what happens when young people get that first opportunity. And I've seen what happens when they don't.
The £200 target covers the course and the marathon entry fee that made this fundraiser possible. Every penny over £200 goes towards funding another young person through the same pathway.
You're not donating to me. You're donating to the version of someone that exists on the other side of this qualification.
That feels like £5 well spent. Maybe even £10.
