Story
I am fundraising for the Colombia Earthquake Appeal.
A powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake has struck western Colombia, killing at least 160 people and leaving homes and essential infrastructure damaged.
On Saturday 22 August, my children, James and Gabriela, and I travelled to London to take part in a special 5K organised by Latin Run Club London.
The group usually meets every Saturday for a 5K run, but this week’s event was dedicated to Colombia and to raising funds for the people and communities affected by the devastating earthquake on 10 August 2026.
As a proud Colombian who has lived in the UK for over 30 years, Colombia will always be home and an important part of who I am. I have also raised my children to know, love, and celebrate their Colombian heritage, so it meant a great deal to me to have James and Gabriela running beside me for our beloved country. I felt incredibly proud of them both. Gracias, hijos míos. 💛💙❤️
It was a very special and emotional morning. We had the opportunity to meet and run alongside fellow Colombians, all united by our love for Colombia and our desire to do something—however small—to help the families whose lives have been devastated.
We completed our 5K, but our effort does not end at the finish line. Through this page, we hope to raise funds for ActionAid’s Colombia Earthquake Appeal, helping affected families receive urgently needed food, clean water, shelter, medical care and other essential support.
Please donate whatever you can. No amount is too small, and every contribution will help. If you are unable to donate, sharing our page would also mean so much to us.
Thank you for supporting us and standing with the people of Colombia during this heartbreaking time.
¡Colombia, estamos contigo! 🇨🇴🙏🏾
With love and gratitude,
Sofia, James and Gabriela
