Shaun and Liam's fundraiser for SOFT UK

Shaun Dowdall is raising money for SOFT UK

Altra Yorkshire 10 Mile 2025 · 19 October 2025 ·

SOFT UK was founded in 1990 by Christine Rose and Jenny Robbins. As mothers, they were unfortunate enough to discover first-hand the lack of support and information available to families affected by Patau’s syndrome (Trisomy 13), Edwards’ syndrome (Trisomy 18) and related disorders.

Story

We are doing it again, another 10 mile run. Myself and Liam will be running the York 10 mile in October 2025 along with some other runners for SOFT UK.

Training has started and we will post some updates.

We are doing this for Emilia who was diagnosed with Trisomy 18 in 2019 during pregnancy. Now she's here, and a bundle of diva energy, with a rare diagnosis of mosaic Trisomy 18.

Liam was always there to listen during a very rough time, and is now Emilia's God Father, which is why I always end up dragging him into events like this.

Neither of us are runners, which is hard to imagine considering our god like physiques, but we will do our best to complete the race in a good time.

Thanks so much for your support everyone!

About SOFT UK

During our pregnancy SOFT UK were a valuable resource for support and information.

SOFT UK was started to provide a much-needed support network for children and families affected by Pataus' and Edwards' Syndrome and related disorders. Since its humble origins almost 30 years ago, SOFT UK has grown into a much larger organisation run by families for families.

Ninety percent of the volunteers and staff team have a link with Trisomy within their own families, helping to alleviate the isolation that comes with a Trisomy diagnosis.
