Story

Continued from a broken Enthuse page

A little over a decade ago, my world stopped when a brain tumour abruptly ended my grandad's life.

He was a wonderful man who brought out the best in me. Always quick with a joke and a master at card tricks, he always made me smile, even on the hardest days. He taught me never to take life too seriously. It's both the longest and shortest thing we'll ever do, so why not live it with joy and spread that joy to others?

I'll never forget seeing this vibrant man fighting for his life in a hospital bed. His final words to me were: "I'll see you soon, Ethan. God bless."

I never did see him again.

On the 13th of May, 2015, he took his last breath as his daughters, my mum and my aunt, rushed to the hospital after we learned he had taken a turn for the worse.

Every single day, 34 people and their families hear the devastating words: "You have a brain tumour." In that moment, it's not just their world that stops, but the worlds of everyone who loves them.

It was my grandad's carefree philosophy that inspired me to take on this marathon. If I'm going to start running, why not go for the biggest challenge and do it properly?

I only began running this year, and the 10K I recently completed pushed me to my absolute limits (embarrassing, I know). But despite that challenge, I know that 34 people every day face something infinitely harder. And that's their daily reality, not just a one-time race.

Cancer has touched my family repeatedly. My grandad, my uncle, and most recently, my Nan. If a few months of training and temporary discomfort can help raise funds to continue the fight against this disease, I'll gladly put in every hour it takes.

Therefore, I kindly ask, from the bottom of my heart, any friends, family, colleagues, and anyone else reading this to join me in raising £1,500 for The Brain Tumour Charity. They provided dignity and comfort in my grandad's final days and continue working tirelessly to accelerate progress toward a cure.

Any amount, no matter how small, makes a difference.

On behalf of The Brain Tumour Charity and my family, thank you for any support you can give. Together, we can help ensure fewer families have to say goodbye too soon.
