Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon 2024 · 12 May 2024 ·

The Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon will take place on Sunday 12 May 2024 and has been inspired by former Leeds Rhinos captain, Kevin Sinfield OBE, and his fundraising challenges in recent years in support of his friend and team mate Rob Burrow.

Story

Ding ding - round 2. Unfortunately due to being significantly hindered last year due to Gout I deferred my place in the Marathon and now I'm good to go again.

"First it comes for your voice. Then it takes your legs. It tries to rob you of your breath. But it can't sap your spirit." - Rob Burrow

It was hearing these words for in October 2020 that really brought home the impact of what MND can do to a man. Rob Burrow, a man that defied all expectation to become one of the greatest British Rugby League players to grace the field sharing the impact MND had on his life. I grew up watching Rob tear up the rugby pitch and go to-to-toe with some of the greatest Rugby players around and seeing what this indiscriminate disease can do inspired me to get into action.

So, with that I've set myself the challenge of running the Leeds Marathon for 2 reasons.

1. To prove to myself that if someone can approach adversity with such a bold attitude then this slightly overweight vertically-challenged lad from Leeds can run a marathon.

2. To raise crucial funds for the MND Association.

Please give what you can - I'll be posting updates primarily on my Instagram to keep me accountable and you can also track my activities and routes on Strava

MND is life-shortening and has no known cure. Funds raise my the MND association go to support both research to know more about the disease, and to help those who suffer have a better quality of life.

We need your support.

£120 could provide an overbed table, making it easier for someone with MND to eat, drink and read safely and comfortably in bed

£230 could fund the coordination of care for someone with MND at a Care Centre for a year

£500 could provide a tablet device with specialist communication software, allowing someone to communicate with loved ones

£750 could fund an MND expert researcher for a week

Every penny raised from The Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon will bring us closer to achieving our ultimate mission; a world free from MND.
