Story
Every two weeks I give up my sleep and spend my Friday night from 8.30pm to at least 4am helping those who find themselves vulnerable. That might be those who are rough sleeping, those who have fallen, got lost, those who have been attacked, had an adverse reaction to drinks or drug or been spiked or assaulted. It can even be as simple as giving a smile or a listening ear to those feeling low or charging a phone up and checking the license plate of a taxi for blurred eyes.
This week I'm doing that again, after a very full on week at work, an empty social battery and then I'm going to go straight out and run a 10km run. That isn't far for many but for me it's far enough and I would feel it on a good day and on no sleep I shall really feel it, especially the endless hills :(
So many of us take a sound nights sleep for granted, the security of knowing we're safe as we sleep; that when we wake up we have clean dry clothes to put on, a charged phone, food in the fridge. The people I spend my Friday nights with often don't have that, the rough sleepers very rarely get the privilege of a comfy night sleep as we have no shelter in Windsor and our hub has to close at 3am.
If you can donate it would mean so much, we're all volunteers at Windsor Street Angels so every penny we receive goes to the kit we use to help others or the rent for the hub where we can provide a spot of comfort for a few hours of the night on a Saturday.
