Story

Growing up, I spent time at Granny’s every single day. A local legend in our community, known for her beautiful smile that she always wears, no matter what. Granny shaped who I am and taught me everything from riding a bike to peeling tatties.

I am challenging myself to run 1,000 miles in a year. Starting 1st April 2026, until 31st March 2027. The equivalent of 20 miles a week or 38 marathons! My original goal was 500 miles because Granny lives on the North Coast 500 route, but I’ve since thought to myself ‘go big or go home, let’s double it!!’. I’ve never taken on anything quite like this before. I proudly completed Couch to 5K in 2023 but since then, the trainers have gathered dust. For me, this is a monumental challenge—physically and emotionally – but my heart is in it for Granny.

Every mile I run will be a tribute to the smiles, strength and kindness my Granny has shown throughout her life. This journey is more than just a fundraiser—it’s a way for me to honor Granny’s legacy, raise awareness about Alzheimer’s, and encourage others to cherish and support their loved ones facing this horrific disease.

Over the past few years Alzheimer’s disease has slowly taken more and more from Granny. There are days when I feel I’m losing her bit by bit, yet she’s still here - her spirit shining through, especially when I can make her smile. This challenge is my way to channel the pain into hope and to support others going through similar struggles.

I need your help to reach my £5,000 goal for Alzheimer’s Scotland. Whether you feel able to donate, share my story, or simply cheer me on from afar, I am truly grateful for every gesture of support. Each act – no matter how small – brings us closer to bringing hope and comfort to families across Scotland who are affected by dementia. Thank you for joining me on this journey and for believing in the power of love, kindness and the power of community.

Together, we can make a real difference.

I plan to regularly post progress updates on this page if you're interested in finding out how I'm doing. Any cheering on from afar will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story!
