I have chosen to take part in the Great North Run 2026 in memory of my brother, Adam Thomas Hinds (known to most as Hindzy).

I will be raising funds for the Newcastle Hospital Charity which supports the RVI, and other Newcastle hospitals, to improve and enhance the care of their patients and funds projects that go above and beyond what NHS funding is able to provide.

Here is my why…

In the early hours of Saturday 9th December 2023, we were woken by police, to say that whilst leaving a well known bar in Durham, Adam tripped and fell to the bottom of the stairs, suffering serious injuries. We were rushed to the RVI by police, where we were informed by doctors Adam was in a coma, and was to undergo critical brain surgery to help the bleed on his brain. We kissed him goodbye before he was rushed into theatre. Hours later, he was taken to the Intensive Care Unit, where he remained for the longest and most horrific 13 days of my families lives.

Whilst there, Adam received 24 hour care from 2 nurses at a time and continuous care around the clock from doctors, specialist and consultants. The care he received was impeccable, and there are no words that could thank those involved in his care enough.

As a family, we spent all day and night in the ITU. His friends filled the room with chatter and his favourite music. His bed was surrounded by love and hope.

Sadly, on Friday 22nd December, only 3 days before Christmas, Adam became too poorly and lost his fight. He passed away surrounded by his family, knowing how loved he was.

The RVI is a place I will treasure in my heart, as the place I said goodbye to my big brother.

Running isn’t my strong point, and I know it will be tough. But navigating grief and a world without my brother has been, and will continue to be one of the hardest thing I ever have to go through. So.. challenge ACCEPTED!
