Mara, Harry and Charles' fundraiser for MQ Mental Health Research

Mara Branet is raising money for MQ Mental Health Research
In memory of India Porter

Paris Marathon 2026 · 12 April 2026 ·

MQ Mental Health Research is a charity formed to support research into mental illness. By funding research, we will be able to understand mental illness, improve current treatments, identify new ones and transform the lives of those affected: over 15 million in the UK. Better is possible.

Story

Mara, Harry and Charles, two of India’s closest friends and her father, will be running the Paris Marathon on 12th April 2026 - united by their grief and the huge void left behind in their lives, with a determination to improve the lives of others struggling with mental health and prevention of suicide. Turning pain into purpose, where every mile of this journey will be powered by India’s memory.

A little backstory as to why this run is so deeply personal to us. India took her own life on the 13th August 2025 at the age of 25. She appeared to have everything going for her - extremely beautiful, incredibly empathetic and compassionate, lighting up any room with her smile. Excelling academically, graduating as a medical doctor, she was also incredibly athletic, having won national figure skating competitions. A fiercely loyal friend, putting everyone but herself first. From an outside perspective, you would never have known the internal battles that she was fighting for so long.

We are running for India, but also for all of those that feel unheard, unseen, unappreciated or overwhelmed. This is a race for change, and breaking silence and stigma against mental health. Suicide is the number one killer of people under the age of 35. All life is precious and no one should have to struggle alone.

Please help us raise money not only in memory of India, but to help fund research and provide better solutions into mental health at MQ. This is our journey of recovery, purpose, power and hope.❤️

“So much to do, so much to see, so much to love, so much to gain, so much to lose. It’s called life.” ~ James
