Signing up for this marathon was nothing more than another man approaching 30 who was having a "third of life crisis". 90 felt a fair estimate for how long one could live in the modern world. The fragility of life was still an unknown to that innocent mind.
In August, that changed, and my family's world was turned upside down. My eldest sister had accidentally fallen whilst on holiday with her two young girls and her partner. She had suffered an unsurvivable trauma to the head, aged only 35.
Jessie was a magnificent human being who spent her time on this planet with a real joie de vivre. She was the kind of person who noticed the finer details, who bought you the Christmas present of the thing you mentioned in passing back in November, who would give you a lift somewhere with no prior notice and not complain that it was a bother. She went out of her way to make everyone else's lives easier.
She spent most of her working life at St Basils helping and housing young people before recently moving to the local council to continue her work in homelessness prevention. Though it wasn't always easy, she didn't shy away from a challenge, treated everyone fairly and welcomed them with open arms. Her purpose in life was caring for others.
She will be remembered and cherished as the perfect mother, a devoted daughter, and a brilliant big sister.

I'd also like you to please consider signing up to the Organ Donor Register. When a family suffers an incomprehensible loss, the giving of potential life to another can be an immense comfort, and we need more people to know how their loved ones feel about donation. So let someone know or sign up to the register, wherever in the world you are. Jessie helped people her whole life, she was so immense, so huge and passionate in her generosity.
St Basils works with young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, to enable them to find and keep a home, grow their confidence, develop their skills, increase opportunities and prevent homelessness.
