Story
In April 2026 we will be running the London Marathon in support of Bliss, a charity that helps sick and premature babies in NICUs across the UK.
This cause is very close to our hearts. Our daughter, Matilda, was born 7 weeks early at just 33 weeks gestation after I suffered a partial placental abruption. I was rushed to hospital after severe blood loss, and an emergency c-section was the only way to save both of us. I lost 3 litres of blood, and thanks to intraoperative cell salvage, I didn’t need a transfusion.
Matilda faced her own huge battle. She needed the CPAP machine to breathe and required specialist care and interventions in the NICU. For almost 4 weeks, our lives were on hold while she fought so hard. We were finally able to bring her home just before Christmas — the best gift we could have ever hoped for.
Without the incredible team of NICU nurses and doctors, we simply wouldn’t have her here today. That’s why I am running this marathon — to raise money so that other families in our position can receive the same life-saving support.
No one can truly understand what it’s like until you’ve lived it, to ask a nurse how your baby did overnight because you weren’t there to hold them, to go home without your baby in your arms, to feel helpless during what should be the happiest time of your life.
NICU babies and families are warriors. Bliss makes sure they are never alone in that fight.
If you can, please donate and help me support more families like ours. Every step we take in the marathon will be for Matilda, for Bliss, and for every little warrior still fighting. 💜
1 in every 7 babies born in the UK will need specialist care.
Bliss is the leading UK charity for babies born premature or sick. They rely on donations to fund their work, and without our help they won't be able to reach the 90,000 babies needing neonatal care each year.
Your donation to my page will help Bliss to drive improvements in neonatal care, to ensure that the needs of babies are at the heart of policy and planning for the future, and to provide information and support to all families with a baby born premature or sick.
