Story

I will be running the 2026 London Marathon on behalf of Whizz Kidz-specialist wheel chairs for children.

Every donation no matter how large or small helps trickle towards the target.

Over 75,000 young people in the UK need to use a wheelchair to be mobile.

Sadly the harsh reality of the NHS budget issues, means that a huge number of young children who need a wheelchair, are not seen as a priority. it is assumed that as a young differently abled person, that they wouldn't be able to mobilise themselves and parents or carers would most likely be their primary source of transport and access.

This outlook on health service money saving, means that these children are not being given the chance to grow their own independence, be part of social events or simply easiy be with their friends, and instead are left entirely reliant on parents or carers.

the few children who do receive a wheel chair, often have to wait months and the chair they receive is usually a heavy, standard adult chair or basic buggy, that is either too heavy or simply not capable of being pushed by the child using it.

Whizz Kidz stepped up to the mark to fill the gap that the health service cannot. Whizz Kidz provides lightweight and specialist wheel chairs, designed for kids to mobilise them and give them their freedom to grow as part of the everyday activities that we all take for granted.

“There are ~75,000 young people in the UK who need a wheelchair — but many never get one.”

“In the first quarter of 2025 alone, over 1,600 children waited more than three months for an NHS wheelchair — and 1,700 more were rejected as ‘not needing equipment’.”

“Whizz Kidz has closed its wheelchairs waitlist for the first time in 35 years — over 1,000 children are now waiting for life-changing mobility.”

“More than half of NHS-provided wheelchairs for kids are rated ‘unsuitable’ by their families.”

“Many children who do get a wheelchair are given standard adult chairs or basic buggies — heavy, uncomfortable, and stripping away their independence.”

Whizz Kidz are the UK’s leading charity supporting young wheelchair users up to 25 years old. They empower young wheelchair users with the equipment, support, and confidence-building experiences they need to take an active role in society. The Whizz Kidz goal is to create a movement for progress towards a more open and accessible world.
