Story
In June 2026, we – Matt, Tim and Amy – will be taking on The Wall Ultramarathon in memory of our incredible Mum (mother-in-law to Amy), Chris Burns. The Wall is a 70-mile (113 km), 24-hour ultramarathon starting at Carlisle Castle and ending in Newcastle, the city where Mum was born.
The route follows the path of Hadrian’s Wall, an area that meant a lot to Mum, having grown up in the North East and completing the Hadrian’s Wall Path hike with our Dad, Ian, in 2009. Running this route feels like an appropriate way to remember her and to spend time in a landscape we know she loved.

Chris (also known as Kit or Christine) passed away in her sleep on 19th November 2025, after an 18-month battle with bowel and liver cancer. Before she died, she requested any fundraising efforts or donations to support Children with Cancer UK. Throughout her illness, and true to her nature, Mum continued to think of others before herself. The thought of young families going through what she faced affected her deeply and she wanted any fundraising efforts to go toward helping these families.
About Children with Cancer UK
For 35 years, Children with Cancer UK has funded much needed research into the causes of childhood cancers, and the development of better, kinder treatments as well as funding initiatives that support children and their families through cancer treatment and beyond. Their work has contributed significantly to a marked increase in childhood cancer survival rates and improved quality of life for patients.
Why We’re Fundraising
We’re taking on this challenge in Mum’s memory and to support the charity she chose. If you’re able to donate, share our page, or simply send your support, we would be incredibly grateful.
Thank you.
