We empower people to become self-sufficient, with a leg-up rather than a hand-out. Community-based projects that integrate education, enterprise, environment, nutrition and health, lift communities out of the cycle of poverty into a cycle of sustainability.

Story

Ok this is very last minute and I'm scared I'm nowhere near fit enough but I haven't done a charity thing for too long and this is a great cause.

THE THING:

This Saturday a hardy crew of 25 are going to hike all six trails up and down Yr Wyddfa (aka Snowdon), the highest mountain in Wales (1085m).

Rough plan is:

4am start

UP - Watkin Path (6.8km, ↑1015m) - Toughest of the three ascents but there is a clear path all the way up with the exception of a small scramble section of 400m or so.

DOWN - Snowdon Ranger Path (10km, ↓900m) - Quietest of the routes with stunning views

UP - Rhyd Ddu Path (6km, ↑900m) - Ascent on mixed terrain. Another quiet route that narrows near the summit with beautiful views and some steep sections.

DOWN - Miners Track (6.5km, ↓725m) - Steep decent at first then a gradual decline past the lakes

UP - Pyg Track (5.5km, ↑890m) - Some steep and tricky sections

DOWN - Llanberis Path (7.2km, ↓975km) - The most popular and longest route ending in Llanberis village

PUB! (If it's still open)

Total distance = 42km (26 miles)

Should take 12-16 hours

THE CAUSE:

Love Support Unite is a charity operating in poverty-stricken areas of Malawi where families often only get 1-2 meals a week during "hungry season" and cholera and malaria are rife at the moment. LSU is a "dynamic grass roots charity changing lives everyday through sustainable development. We partner with communities in Malawi to break the cycle of poverty with a leg-up rather than a hand-out. We bring about lasting and measurable change through holistic development. Our Foundations For The Future Model takes a holistic approach to tackling the challenge of poverty. We integrate education, enterprise, nutrition, health, clean water and energy, in community-owned projects which creates self sufficiency. In this way the whole community is empowered."
