Story
In 2026 I’m running in the London Marathon. I’m raising funds for MDS UK Patient Support Group and The Brain Tumour Charity.
in 2009 I was diagnosed with MDS, a blood cancer with only one cure, which only 1 in 10 patients gets a chance to receive. I spent 7 months in hospital, had 3 bone marrow transplants, the last of which was a groundbreaking ‘Haplo’ transplant - a half match. I had in the region of 350 units of blood and platelets. I was lucky to get through it and thought that would be it!
BUT
In 2024 I was diagnosed with a brain tumour the size of my fist. It took up 25% of the capacity of my skull. And it needed urgently dealing with. Again, I was lucky and if you have a tumour then mine was a Rolls Royce.
I want to give back by raising awareness and funds for research and support. My journey has been very difficult but I’m still here and I think I’ve overcome things because I had such amazing support.
